Download circualr progress bar custom control example in xamarin android

Brief: Custom control for download data status indicator in xamarin android.

In my previous post explained Circular progress bar example using xamarin android, Expandable listview example in xamarin androidMaterial design tab control example in xamarin android and other material design components.

Description: In this example shown the file download progress in circular progress bar with percentage status text. This implementation is not based on the selector xml file.

Step 1: Edit the layout file as follows,
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
    android:orientation="vertical"
    android:layout_width="match_parent"
    android:layout_height="match_parent"
    android:background="#ffdcdcdc">
    <LinearLayout
        android:layout_width="match_parent"
        android:layout_height="wrap_content"
        android:layout_margin="4dp"
        android:background="@drawable/roundedCorner"
        android:layout_centerInParent="true">
        <LinearLayout
            android:orientation="vertical"
            android:layout_width="match_parent"
            android:layout_height="wrap_content"
            android:layout_margin="6dp"
            android:background="@drawable/round_corner_white">
            <DownloadCircularProgress.InitCircularProgressClass
                android:id="@+id/rate_progress_bar"
                android:layout_width="match_parent"
                android:layout_height="150dp"
                android:layout_margin="10dp" />
            <Button
                android:id="@+id/btnDownload"
                android:layout_width="match_parent"
                android:layout_height="40dp"
                android:layout_margin="5dp"
                android:text="@string/download" />
        </LinearLayout>
    </LinearLayout>
</RelativeLayout>
Step 2: Check out the code for Activity and other supporting class as follows,
MainActivity.cs

using Android.App;
using Android.Widget;
using Android.OS;
using DownloadCircularProgress.Shared;
using System;
using System.Threading.Tasks;
using Android.Graphics;

namespace DownloadCircularProgress
{

 [Activity (Label = "DownloadCircularProgress", MainLauncher = true, Icon = "@mipmap/icon")]
 public class MainActivity : Activity
 {
  InitCircularProgressClass initCircularProgressBar;
  protected override void OnCreate (Bundle savedInstanceState)
  {
   base.OnCreate (savedInstanceState);
   Window.RequestFeature (Android.Views.WindowFeatures.NoTitle);
   SetContentView (Resource.Layout.Main);

   Button button = FindViewById<Button> (Resource.Id.btnDownload);
   fnInitializeCircleBar();
   button.Click += StartDownloadHandler;

  }
  async void StartDownloadHandler(object sender, System.EventArgs e)
  {
   //initCircularProgressBar.setProgress(secondUpdate);
   var progressReporter = new Progress<DownloadProgressClass>();
   progressReporter.ProgressChanged += (s, args) => initCircularProgressBar.setProgress((int)(100 * args.PercentComplete));
   Task<int> downloadTask =  DownloadHelperClass.CreateDownloadTask(DownloadHelperClass.ImageToDownload, progressReporter);
   int bytesDownloaded = await downloadTask;
   System.Diagnostics.Debug.WriteLine("Downloaded {0} bytes.", bytesDownloaded);
  }
  void fnInitializeCircleBar()
  {
   initCircularProgressBar = (InitCircularProgressClass)FindViewById(Resource.Id.rate_progress_bar);
   initCircularProgressBar.setMax(100);
   initCircularProgressBar.ClearAnimation();
   initCircularProgressBar.setTextSize (18);
   initCircularProgressBar.setTextColor (Color.ParseColor ("#fff69212"));
   initCircularProgressBar.setTextTypeFaceBold ();
   initCircularProgressBar.setProgress (0);

   initCircularProgressBar.getCircularProgressBar().setCircleWidth(14);
   initCircularProgressBar.getCircularProgressBar().setMax(100);
   initCircularProgressBar.getCircularProgressBar ().setPrimaryColor (Color.ParseColor ("#fff69212"));// Color.Rgb(255,215,0));
   initCircularProgressBar.getCircularProgressBar().setBackgroundColor(Color.White);
  }
 }
}
Step 3: Custom control creation code,
CircularProgressBarClass.cs

using System;
using Android.Views;
using Android.Graphics;
using Android.Content;
using Android.Util;

namespace DownloadCircularProgress
{
 public class CircularProgressBarClass : View
 {
   int mDuration = 100;
   int mProgress = 30;
   Paint mPaint = new Paint();
   RectF mRectF = new RectF();
   Color mBackgroundColor = Color.White;
   Color mPrimaryColor = Color.Yellow;
   float mStrokeWidth = 10F;

   public IOnProgressChangeListener mOnChangeListener;

    public interface IOnProgressChangeListener {

   void onChange(int duration, int progress, float rate);
  }

  public void setOnProgressChangeListener(IOnProgressChangeListener l)
  {
   mOnChangeListener = l;
  }
  public CircularProgressBarClass(Context context) :base(context) {
  }

  public CircularProgressBarClass(Context context, IAttributeSet attrs) : base(context,attrs) {
  }

  public void setMax( int max ) {
   if( max < 0 ) {
    max = 0;
   }
   mDuration = max;
  }

  public int getMax() {
   return mDuration;
  }

  public void setProgress( int progress ) {
   if( progress > mDuration ) {
    progress = mDuration;
   }
   mProgress = progress;
   if( mOnChangeListener != null ) {
    mOnChangeListener.onChange(mDuration, progress, getRateOfProgress());
   }
   Invalidate();
  }

  public int getProgress() {
   return mProgress;
  }

  public void setBackgroundColor( Color color ) {
   mBackgroundColor = color;
  }

  public void setPrimaryColor( Color color ) {
   mPrimaryColor = color;
  }

  public void setCircleWidth(float width) {
   mStrokeWidth = width;
  }

  protected override void OnDraw (Canvas canvas)
  {
   base.OnDraw (canvas);
   int halfWidth = Width / 2;
   int halfHeight = Height/2;
   int radius = halfWidth < halfHeight ? halfWidth : halfHeight;
   float halfStrokeWidth = mStrokeWidth / 2;

   mPaint.Color=mBackgroundColor;
   mPaint.Dither=true;
   mPaint.Flags = PaintFlags.AntiAlias;
   mPaint.AntiAlias=true;
   mPaint.StrokeWidth=mStrokeWidth;
   mPaint.SetStyle(Paint.Style.Stroke);
   canvas.DrawCircle(halfWidth, halfHeight, radius - halfStrokeWidth, mPaint);

   mPaint.Color=mPrimaryColor;
   mRectF.Top = halfHeight - radius + halfStrokeWidth;
   mRectF.Bottom = halfHeight + radius - halfStrokeWidth;
   mRectF.Left = halfWidth - radius + halfStrokeWidth;
   mRectF.Right = halfWidth + radius - halfStrokeWidth;
   canvas.DrawArc(mRectF, -90, getRateOfProgress() * 360, false, mPaint);
   canvas.Save();
  }

  private float getRateOfProgress() {
   return (float)mProgress / mDuration;
  }
 }
}
Step 4: Initialisation code for circular progress bar control,
InitCircularProgressClass.cs

using Android.Widget;
using Android.Content;
using Android.Views;
using Android.Graphics;
using Android.Util;

namespace DownloadCircularProgress
{
 public class InitCircularProgressClass :FrameLayout,CircularProgressBarClass.IOnProgressChangeListener
 {
  CircularProgressBarClass mCircularProgressBar;
  TextView mRateText;
  int maxDuration;
  public InitCircularProgressClass(Context context):base(context) {
   init();
  }
  public InitCircularProgressClass(Context context, IAttributeSet attrs) :base(context,attrs){
   init();
  }
  void init() {
   mCircularProgressBar = new CircularProgressBarClass( Context);
   AddView(mCircularProgressBar);
   var lp = new LayoutParams(ViewGroup.LayoutParams.MatchParent, ViewGroup.LayoutParams.MatchParent);
   lp.Gravity = GravityFlags.Center;
   mCircularProgressBar.LayoutParameters=(lp);
   mRateText = new TextView(Context);
   AddView(mRateText);
   mRateText.LayoutParameters=lp;
   mRateText.Gravity=GravityFlags.Center;
   mRateText.SetTextColor( Color.Black);
   mRateText.SetTextSize( ComplexUnitType.Dip,10);
   mCircularProgressBar.setOnProgressChangeListener(this);
  }
  public void setMax( int max ) {
   mCircularProgressBar.setMax(max);
   maxDuration = max;
  }

  public void setProgress(int progress) {
   mCircularProgressBar.setProgress(progress);
  }

  public CircularProgressBarClass getCircularProgressBar() {
   return mCircularProgressBar;
  }

  public void setTextSize(float size) {
   mRateText.SetTextSize(ComplexUnitType.Dip,size);
  }

  public void setTextColor( Color color) {
   mRateText.SetTextColor(color);
  }

  public void setTextTypeFaceBold()
  {
   mRateText.Typeface = Typeface.DefaultBold;
  }

  public void onChange(int duration, int progress, float rate)
  {
   mRateText.Text=string.Format("{0}%", ( (int) (rate * maxDuration )).ToString());
  }

 }
}

Step 5: As file download functionality is shareable across the platform you can consider using in shared project.
Add ->New project->Cross-platform->Library->Shared Project.
DownloadProgressClass.cs

namespace DownloadCircularProgress.Shared
{
 public class DownloadProgressClass
 {
  public DownloadProgressClass(string fileName, int bytesReceived, int totalBytes)
  {
   Filename = fileName;
   BytesReceived = bytesReceived;
   TotalBytes = totalBytes;
  }

  public int TotalBytes { get; private set; }

  public int BytesReceived { get; private set; }

  public float PercentComplete { get { return (float)BytesReceived / TotalBytes; } }

  public string Filename { get; private set; }

  public bool IsFinished { get { return BytesReceived == TotalBytes; } }
 }
}
Step 6: Add new class with download helper code.
DownloadHelperClass.cs

using System;
using System.Threading.Tasks;
using System.Net;

namespace DownloadCircularProgress.Shared
{
 public class DownloadHelperClass
 {
  public static readonly string ImageToDownload = "http://eoimages.gsfc.nasa.gov/images/imagerecords/74000/74393/world.topo.200407.3x5400x2700.jpg";
  public static readonly int BufferSize = 4096;

  public static async Task<int> CreateDownloadTask(string urlToDownload, IProgress<DownloadProgressClass> progessReporter)
  {
   int receivedBytes = 0;
   int totalBytes = 0;
   var client = new WebClient();

   using (var stream = await client.OpenReadTaskAsync(urlToDownload))
   {
    byte[] buffer = new byte[BufferSize];
    totalBytes = Int32.Parse(client.ResponseHeaders[HttpResponseHeader.ContentLength]);

    for (;;)
    {
     int bytesRead = await stream.ReadAsync(buffer, 0, buffer.Length);
     if (bytesRead == 0)
     {
      await Task.Yield();
      break;
     }

     receivedBytes += bytesRead;
     if (progessReporter != null)
     {
      var args = new DownloadProgressClass(urlToDownload, receivedBytes, totalBytes);
      progessReporter.Report(args);
     }
    }
   }
   return receivedBytes;
  }

 }
}
Conclusion : This is the best suitable example if you are looking for implementation of circular progress dynamically from code behind file without using xml selectors.
